Thinking about a new space to live in a historical context always offers the opportunity of comparison, of the dialectic between old and new, of the interpretation of the pre-existing signs, spaces and materials. I always try to approach with discretion these timeless places, rich in memory. And I recognize that mine is certainly a romantic attitude: what might appear to be a renunciation of the creative dimension of the design. Instead, I believe it is a practice not to be ashamed of: the (un)faithful reproduction in style of a door or a ceiling is nothing more than the addition of a further “promise of happiness”, waiting for the patina of time to intervene soon to reshuffle the whole.
